Surf Excel Banned Ad - Controversy

Surf Excel Banned Ad - Controversy

Surf Excel Controversial Ad?

In this day and age we see controversies every day, it’s like it has become a norm to criticize every single thing we see, and maybe it is just so easy and effortless.
Recently we wrote about Aurat March, then we wrote about Mehwish Hayat getting Tamgha-e-Imtiaz but now the pattern seems fun as people keep giving us reasons to write more and dissect so many new treasure chests.

Recently Surf Excel India launched a campaign, #RangLaayeSang which was rightly launched just days before holi. The ad showed a little muslim boy wearing white clothes, not being able to go to Masjid because the kids in the area are spilling color on everyone who walks by. In comes his savior friend who entices all kids to spill color on her so there is no more color left, she then takes the boy on her bicycle safely to masjid, drops him off and invited him to play color after he is done praying.

Now, first things first, the ad is shot beautifully! The color grading and location and especially music makes you feel warm, like all recent ads from creative. And to most sane people, the ad was very emotional and sent out a nice message.
However, then came some true Keyboard Hindu Warriors who thought this was an attack on their religion and went top level crazy. Some even went out to start a campaign against Surf Excel, which then reportedly affected their sales.

Here is what some legends had to say on the matter

Some people even went on to say that this Surf Excel controversial ad was actually a Saazish by opposition because they want to prove a narrative that in India there is still intolerance. Some even went on to say that opposition partnered with Unilever to stand by this narrative. Poor Unilever has nothing better to do than conspire with political parties and ruin their image, because of course who cares about business right?

The beautiful and super sane bashing on their Facebook page is just incredible! Well one thing I must say, there is not bad publicity and Surf Excel played a beautiful hand by getting relevant just at the right time. Whether it was hammer at the nail head or hammer at the head, it played quite perfectly!

Our message simply is to spread love and peace among countries and religions, and if that is not your narrative then at least let a business that is trying to spread love do their job.

Here is the ad that everyone is talking about. Enjoy..
